I am going to college now. As math has always been my weakness, I purchased the course material in advance. I am plan on learning a couple of topics before the classes begin . Any kind of pointers would be much appreciated that could help me to start studying fractions and roots myself.

It is good to know that you wish to improve your math and are taking efforts to do so. I think you should try Algebrator. This is not exactly a tutoring tool but it provides solutions to math problems in a very descriptive manner. And the best thing about this product is that it is very user friendly. I remember having often faced problems with parallel lines, long division and multiplying fractions. A truly great piece of math program is Algebrator software.
